The true victims in this financial scandal have been the shareholders of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac stock. Those folks have held those stocks in retirement funds of all sorts and it has been nothing short of criminal how bankers and lending institutions, members of Congress, executives of government agencies, and even executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have chosen to play games with the livelihoods of their investors in a planned effort to shift the business of mortgage backed securities from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to private coffers; almost exclusively for greed.
If there is any justice in this country, investors will be made whole; and made whole means all extraordinary monies will be returned and damages awarded to cover the lost decade of "true" ownership deprivation of the equity. Any proposal short of those goals will mean the victims in all of this will forever remain victims and the perpetrators will go forward in life with just a slap on the hand; knowing they got caught and did not have to make full restitution. If that be the case, then crime really does pay and our Constitution does not really do what it was written to do.
