Xi Steady, X System Launched in 2Q



Intuitive Surgical's quarterly system sales have steadily advanced since the 1Q14 launch of its fourth-generation robotic surgery system, the da Vinci Xi. The number of Xis sold increased to 497 in 2017 from 407 in 2016, a 22% gain. The Xi accounted for more than 72% of total system sales and its installed base was 1,465 at the end of 2017, 33% of the total base. The prior flagship system, the Si, posted sales of about 1,825 over a similar time frame. The U.S. accounted for about 73% of 2016 Xi placements.
