the daily short volume and it is meaningless on it's own.The Trade cycle is Trade Date plus 2 days for settlement. Daily only shows the First leg of a transaction and doesn't reconcile based upon settlements made seconds later as the trade has yet another 2 days to settle.

it went up because e investing public spent $273 (2 trades just prior to mkt close) after 20M was dumped just prior
