You can miss out on some very big runs buy not buying above 10-30%. You would have missed out on the last several days of trading which have been great.
I have no problem paying a premium when I buy because I always get a premium when I sell and many time a higher premium that what I paid.

Remember that when someone tries to convince you to buy or sell there is something in it for them. It's not because they are concerned about your investment.
