If you buy and there is a hidden order in there somewhere and they match you of course then you get a bit of a cheaper price. Doesn't happen often but happens. They also fill you from time to time if you happen to have a hidden bid in above the official bid and somebody sells into the bid, but that happens far less nowadays than for example 12 or 18 month ago. Back then they honored these hidden orders way more than now and that will get even worse probably. It really sucks because I can understand that somebody trading a 9 cent stock doesn't always want to spend 900 bucks (10k shares) for each trade and yet obviously peeps don't always want to hit the offer when they wanna buy especially on big spreads.
