Unless an M&A transaction of some sort is in the works, and DO's termination was related to his resisting it and it was important to keep remaining key management until the transaction is finalized (March 2018: is it a coincidence that the retention bonuses are until then and the annual meeting including the increase in authorized shares was pushed up to March this year rather than later in the spring last year? I don't think these different moving parts and their implications are coincidences.)
