People trying to unwind short positions on volatility are getting crushed today. Very crowded trade from what I heard on bloomberg. They also mentioned some portfolio managers are shorting volatility as a way to "make money". This is insane! The good times of low volatility appear over now.

VXX closed at 44, and now bidding 50.8 in afterhours!

Anyone understand this part of the market better? Sounds like a dangerous game. And how much can all these strange hedging start to backfire and disrupt the markets further?
