Here's my theory..don't know how plausible.

BMY and NKTR are in secret talks. Nektar rejects BMY offer as too low. BMY says take it or leave it. Nektar leaks "the buzz" in the Endpts article they are "seeking a possible acquisition". BMY freaks and viola...deal gets done.
