At this point Institutional ownership should be small as most institutions can't deal in penny stocks. Everything really changes when we get to $5 or more, but of course many Institutions can get in lower than that.

What we never know is an Institution that buys in on or after the first day of the quarter, and sells out before or at the last day of the quarter. Any profit of loss from such ownership is rolled together with all companies they've invested in that way, and no ownership need be reported.

Let's say an Institution isn't supposed to invest in stocks under $1. If they invested in January, and the stock went over $1 by the end of March, they could keep their position, but if not they'd have to be out by the end of March, but they could buy back in the first of April. I don't think we have a lot of Institutions doing this, but it does happen.

By the time the stock price reaches $10, I'd be surprised if 80% or more isn't owned by Institution's as most of us individual investors sell out. I don't intend to join those who do, but no telling if I'll change my mind over time.
