That sounds borderline illegal to me, but it's worth a thought; did that happen here with IFXY today? We'll never know.

More so will it make financial sense for someone to sell a security to themselves?

Fake Scenario: someone owns a stock at from 1. It's currently trading at 5. They market sell at 4, 3, and 2 while buying at 4, 3, and 2. IMO they end up with the same amount of shares at the same price that they sold and bought at 4, 3, and 2.

Dunno maybe I've had 1 beer too many.
