ES Eversource Energy (ES +5.2%) spikes higher following news that the company's Northern Pass Transmission line was the sole winner of a 20-year renewable energy contract with the state of Massachusetts to deliver hydropower from Quebec.

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources says the project was selected from among dozens that had submitted bids under a 2016 state law that called for more renewable energy in the state.

ES plans to build a 192-mile transmission line from hydroelectric plants in Canada that will carry power through New Hampshire; a siting decision from the state is expected next month.
