I had a very elderly relative who went to her bank to renew a CD and was instead sold a costly load mutual fund by a stock broker there. She had no idea what she had bought or the fees. I was furious, contacted the bank and the transaction was reversed.
That's a perfect example of why related banks and brokers shouldn't share the same building. (that used to be the law too)
I've never used a credit union but they've picked up a lot of business, I understand, from aggressive banks like WF. Didn't know credit unions sold stocks too.
