Stock buybacks: Whether I loo at it as a positive or not depends on the individual situation. Some companies buy back stock mainly so they will have more treasury stock that they can pass out like candy to their execs. Others, sincerely believe that their stock is undervalued and buy back their stock because it is the best investment for their money. That also helps put a floor under the stock price and attracts more investor interest.

Companies that do buy back stock should generally see a decrease in their outstanding shares over time.
