Plus SQM will have to pay high fees (7%-40%) to the Chilean government. The percent will depend on the price of the lithium sale in $/ton. These fees are much higher than those that other competitors pay to the local governments (e.g., Orocobre which pays under 5%). Thus, even though SQM’s announcement is impressive in terms of volume, reaching these levels will take several years (perhaps 5 or more) and the government fees are quite high. The SQM announcement did a lot of damage this week, but brighter skies are around the corner. I am holding to all my lithium shares.
