it's great that no one can dispute you on that because we never got to see what actually would have occurred. lots of FUD around it and maybe it woudl have caused a great depression 2.0 but we'll never know. never let a good crisis go to waste!
I would further make the point that I'm surprised you don't see the parallel between the GSEs and the Banks need for a bailout - certainly they benefited but - the direct bank bailouts were not the only way they benefited and probably not the biggest impact. That would be QE and asset inflation from there.
