What don't you get about one Co. buying another?

The Co. I work for was bought 3yrs ago by a large multi-national. I still drive to the same building,work with the same people,run the same equipment,make the same product. All my pay,health benefits,vacation etc. are provided by the purchasing Co. Every other employee of the old Co. is in the exact same position. My former employer ceased to exist. So yes we all magically got new jobs at the new Co. If I don't like them (I quit)or they don't like me (I'm fired) either one of us can end it at will at any time. That is the only two options. I can't choose to stay an employee of the old Co. No absurdities involved.
