ORANGE COUNTY -
A $34 million proposal by Gov. Andrew Cuomo is calling for the modernization, expansion and rebranding of Stewart International Airport in Orange County.

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney said the revamping would meet the growing demand for travel options and boost the regional economy.

Of the total cost, $27 million would be allotted toward increasing passenger service, offering express buses to and from Manhattan and expanding name recognition.

The airport would be renamed to New York International.

The plan also includes funding to create a permanent customs and border protection federal inspection station, which would allow more domestic and international flights.

The remaining $7 million will be privately financed to build car ports that support solar power.

It is up to the Port Authority to approve $27 million for the project.

News 12 is told the plan for Stewart International is just one of the proposals that will be included in Gov. Cuomo's State of the State Address on Jan. 3.
