If it were not for amateurs there would never be a professional. I have known garage engineers and shade tree mechanics who grew up inventing and tinkering, who could do a total auto overhaul, fix any farm tractor or implement before they were 14 years of age. One such friend is in astrophysics now and his brother never left the farm but is twice as gifted.

My uncle grew up with Howard Hughes as his neighbor. You should hear the stories that he used to tell about his buddy Howard. Howard was a crazy nut, but what a legacy.

Your idea sounds feasible. Hell, a break-away pole could do the trick and spring loaded it could re=tilt to full upright position... why not? Muhamed Ali figured it out with his rope a dope flexibility!
