2017: A YEAR OF VALIDATION
It’s been another whirlwind year for us at Hound Labs. We began the year by introducing our second prototype which we followed with the start of clinical trials in collaboration with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to achieve third-party validation. (We will be able to talk about the results in 2018.) In July, we conducted the first high-speed track tests with stoned drivers. Participants demonstrated the real-world effects of driving around a track at 65 mph while under the influence of marijuana. Needless to say, the drivers made many mistakes after smoking weed – including hitting a bike that we parked on the shoulder of the road. In addition to these major milestones, we continued to conduct ongoing testing with volunteer human subjects which has allowed us to become one of the leading global experts on the correlation between THC in breath and the established 2-3 hour window of impairment following smoking marijuana, as identified by researchers at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Benchmark validated all of our years of research and development in May of this year with an $8.1 million Series B investment. Other highlights include Dr. Mike Lynn’s interview at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in September. London-based Creative Bloq recognized our logo as one of the Top 10 on its global list. We closed the year with Catchword including us on its list of Top 20 brands in 2017.

THE YEAR AHEAD
We will kick off 2018 by finalizing our commercial-ready device. The product will be available to both law enforcement and employers to help identify recent marijuana use at the roadside and in the workplace. Thanks to your early and continued support, we will take pre-orders in spring 2018 for the Hound® marijuana and alcohol breathalyzer – the first and only modern breathalyzer to measure both marijuana and alcohol in breath, ensuring safety while balancing fairness and individuals’ rights.
