Yes, Ripple serves mainly banks, but imagine that over a trillion dollars is exchange across borders.

Ripple handles transactions 1500 times faster than the BTC platform and faster than ethereum as well.
The argument is a security one. I think that that is not a deal breaker, Japan and S. Korea in trial implementation, the price of Ripple could easily go 10 times higher. IMO
