As long as we are far reaching on some of these ideas let me put my 2 cents in. What if Apple all along had the intention to buy VPLM, but would need a away to get all of the other companies using the patents to licence them and pay infringement costs once they own them. If Apple were to go through the whole process and lose, then were to buy the patents no other company would dare to try to fight their infringement cases. The thought would be "If Apple could not win against this small company we would not have a chance against Apple" This could all be a ploy, Apple files some bs claims that they know will go no whereand act all pissed about losing. Then they have some people posting on sites such as this that Apple will win these appeals and Apple will continue to fight this, ect. This gets people to think how hard Apple is fighting and when they lose the fight, and VPLM prevails, everyone will say how this is an unbeatable patent, thus leading Apple to buy the patent and all other see it as hopeless to fight and just pay up.

There is a reason why VPLM went up against Apple first who knows
