Last year, Canada invoked very strict privacy laws. You have to get explicit consent , to release others information.
For example, i am a dentist here in canada, when my office calls to confirm a patients insurance benefits,, the insurance company on the other end will tell us often, that they can not tell us even if the patient is insured by them or not,, even though we have the patients insurance card in our hands, the insurance company will neither confirm nor deny this patient is insured, and definately will not give out any details,, unless the patient gets on the phone themselves with their insurance company and gives consent to share their information,,,
all this is very strictly inforced in canada,, not opinion by the way,
