Whats crazy is I consider myself a long holder on most stocks I buy, but had just under 100 transactions between 5 stocks or so for 2017. That might sound like a lot, but most were done during the highest volatility of those stocks to mitigate downside risk. I usually sell small chunks on the way up on big movers. This isn't "trading". Its risk management. I mean holding a stock with no movements is a fine way to go in some cases, but why should I be forced into this situation. I just hope I'm too small potatoes to be flagged for this. I know if it comes down to it, fighting CRA would be much harder then just paying out the tax. And that's just why they go after the small guy like me. It't not in my interest to fight a legal battle over a few thousand dollars.. ugh.. I hope they figure this out and lay out some clear rules soon.
