I would be curious to find who is
doing these transactions and why?

Cost to sell has to be more than the stock is worth. Not enough shares
For a big tax write off. Brokers certainly don’t want the stock.
The transfer agent wouldn’t want it
either.

They probably give you .50 for the stock
And. Burn the certificates to start their Fireplace

Maybe make wallpaper out of them
