To more or less answer your question, in about 90% of bankruptcies common shareholders lose everything. But I suspect the odds are much worse with Sears. Just about everything of value has already been sucked out of the company.

BTW, I'm a lawyer by education and I'm quite familiar with bankrupt retailers.

SHLD shares are currently garbage.
