After watching bitcoin break $11k, plummet to $9k and settle around 10 grand, I seriously considered buying some ethereum, but I figured I've missed the boat on this one.

After watching Finance Twitter hoot and howl over the crypto buzz, I decided to take a look at what could derail the bitcoin train—and the only thing that sticks out to me is regulation. Two things that bumped bitcoin down this year were Chinese regulators clamping down on cryptocurrency exchanges and the IRS demanding Coinbase release info on bitcoin transactors.

If regulators come calling in a big way, that might finally be the thing that knocks the sentiment-driven bitcoin rally off the rails.
