Before you put your money into a company have a very close look at the corporate structure- how many personnel, check the existence of Series B shares and their conversion rates, who controls the voting rights, who decides when/how series B shares are awarded to the CEO, can you view audited financials ( full breakdown of expenses )
Finally, what is a realistic timetable for commercialization?

I failed to do that a few years ago and I have regretted it ever since
