Part of the problem is Americans' complacency in thinking this is just like another problem. Some things are not technically feasible. With molten salt thorium reactors there are hard technical barriers. That is what the thorium proponents do not understand. While they sound great if you just look at the pros, the actual building of them requires more than pie in the sky dreams.

AGW is not a problem that the fast food culture can relate to. The magnitude of the problem is akin to hypothetically, NEEDING to have a fusion reactor up and supplying power in a month or less-it's just not going to happen by the very nature of the problem. There are hard insurmountable technical issues with it.

As it stands, the American public is highly illiterate in natural science, yet they by-and-large consider themselves to be individual experts. It is sad, but perhaps not as sad as prosecuting unnecessary wars and lauding ourselves as heroes.
