As to denigrate one’s investment I’m not sure telling the truth on something is unfair.
As to a conscious reasoning, I think years of non producing is fairly sound.
Just because one made an investment and found out it wasn’t up to par, they shouldn’t try to pass it to an unsuspecting person, that’s not very moral.
But that’s just me.
