Nat-Gas generated electricity is at historic levels. In fact it began outpacing coal in 2015. In January 2011 the output of natural gas generated electricity was equal to nuclear. It's now much higher. As temperatures rise the need for air conditioning follows (the spikes on the chart below reflect summer months)

In short, natural gas is not just for heating anymore.
