Dan believed he had almost complete control of the company, and in essence he did. I doubt that he had any clue that forces were plotting his removal. But I do believe that the decision to remove him was made rather suddenly, and the kicker was the lack of a deal for EU in June, in conjunction with taking on a new Phase 3 (DUAL) with no apparent means of paying for it. At that point some tutes were probably questioning what the hell his strategy was. Broadfin selling probably brought the issue home.
