I want to buy more shares at a cheaper price than what is being asked. Lets use the current numbers---I want to buy at 20 and put my bid in at that price. Now I want to scare some of the weak and impatient into selling to my bid. I have millions stashed away so I place a large sell order in at the current 21 and then wait for the weak to shake at their knees and the sell into my bid at 20. Why is fake? I really don't want to sell my 21's and as it gets hit a couple of times I cancel my large ask. This tactic can be used by individuals and MM's who manipulate the PPS to fill a large buy order placed through the individuals brokerage house.
