A royalty like this may be tied to the economic benefits of synthetic material, once Bryostatin is approved.

For instance, hypothetically, let's say it costs $5,000 to extract enough Bryostatin from the Bugula neritina to treat an Alzheimer's patient for one year (we know from past articles that it's very expensive to extract and refine).

But, it costs $1,000 to synthesize (large scale) enough drug to treat an Alzheimer's patient for a year.

If NTRP charges $10,000 wholesale to treat a patient for a year, the gross profit using the marine extract is $5,000.

Using the synthetic drug, the gross profit is $9,000 per patient.

Paying a $200-400 royalty per patient is well worth it to gross $4,000 more per patient per year!!!

As long as the production costs are lower using the synthetic process, the royalty is money well spent!
