Here’s an old 2015 interview with a BoltThreads guy that I just read for the first time:

http://www.innovationintextiles.com/making-spider-silk-without-the-spiders-interview-with-jamie-bainbridge-vice-president-of-product-development-at-bolt-threads/

I never heard of that other company that is mentioned that flopped in the past. At least Bolt sold a few ties to the public since that interview was published.

Two years later and nobody is mass producing a damn thing. Not Bolt, not Spiber, not AmSilk, not even us. That tells us this is hard. Otherwise all four companies would be mass producing already. Flashy press releases, sneakers, jackets, spools...... all meaningless. Nobody is making enough silk which means nobody is making any money yet — only burning money for R&D.

Another two years from now, where will these four companies be? Will any of them be making mass quantities of spidersilk that will be actually sold to the public? Hurry up and wait.
