GOP Has Secret Witness in Senate Clinton Probe, an Ex-Lobbyist for Russian Firm

The name of the FBI informant who was blocked by the Obama Justice Department from testifying to Congress and in court has been revealed.

Reuters reported that lobbyist William D. Campbell is the informant, and “will testify and provide documents to Congress about the Obama Administration’s 2010 approval of the sale of Uranium One, a Canadian company with uranium mines in the United States, to Russia’s Rosatom.”

Victoria Toensing, Campbell’s attorney, told the news outlet that despite her client telling the government at the time “how corrupt the company was,” Rosatom was still granted permission to purchase Uranium One.

“All of the information about this corruption has not come out,” she said. “And so my client, the same part of my client that made him go into the FBI in the first place, says, ‘This is wrong. What should I do about it?’” Toensing told The Hill last month.

Citing a non-disclosure agreement Campbell signed when agreeing to work for the FBI, the Obama Justice Department threatened him with criminal prosecution in the summer of 2016 during the presidential campaign, when he sought to bring a suit in federal court to highlight Russian corruption.

In 2010, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sat on a panel made up of Obama administration officials that approved the sale of Uranium One, a Canadian mining company, to the Russian nuclear giant Rosatom. As reported by The Western Journal, the sale turned over 20 percent of America’s known uranium reserves to Moscow.

In his 2015 book “Clinton Cash,” Peter Schweizer chronicled payments former President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Foundation received from Russian interests, including $500,000 from a Russian bank promoting the Uranium One deal for a speech Bill Clinton gave in Moscow the very month the deal was approved.

Further, Ian Telfer, the CEO of Uranium One, donated $2.35 million to the Clinton Foundation. According to Schweizer, nine shareholders of Uranium One donated a total of $145 million to the Clinton Foundation.

“A lot of this money was flowing months, just months before that crucial vote to approve the deal. It’s really shocking,” Schweizer told Fox News host Sean Hannity last month.

On Wednesday, Clinton slammed the “politicization of the Justice Department” in response to reports the DOJ is considering appointing a special counsel to look into the matter.

The 2016 Democrat presidential nominee told Mother Jones the Uranium One story has been “debunked.”

“And if they send a signal that we’re going to be like some dictatorship, some authoritarian regimen where political opponents are going to be unfairly, fraudulently investigated — that rips at the fabric of the contract we have that we can trust our justice system,” she said.

Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said the Republicans calls for special counsel are designed to distract from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

“This latest iteration is simply more of the Right doing Trump’s bidding for him to distract from his own Russia problems,” he stated.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has launched an investigation to determine whether several federal agencies knew the FBI had uncovered a racketeering scheme involving Russian officials prior to the Obama administration’s approval of the Uranium One sale.
