If they find a way besides using yeast I will be right.
All I have said is they can't make yeast make something larger than itself.



For the sake of accuracy, it is incorrect to say that they need to teach the yeast to "make something larger than itself".

A yeast cell is multiple orders of magnitude larger than even the largest spider silk protein. It is actually the Nuclear Pore Complexes (NPC) that are scattered across the nuclear envelope that have been the bottleneck for producing larger proteins for decades. These pores are very small in yeast cells. Mammalian cells and larger organisms have larger pores on certain cells.

I still have seen no evidence in any of Bolt Threads patents to show that they have found ways to manipulate the pore sizes, or that that is even in the scope of their research. Scientists have been trying to do that since the 60's and if there was a breakthrough, I doubt spider silk would be the first uses. You could make much more money in pharmaceuticals. But I wouldn't say it's impossible.
