The obvious reason someone might want to pay for marijuana in Bitcoin (as opposed to credit/debt cards or other traceable methods of payment) would be to avoid the possibility that anyone can trace their transaction.
The sale, distribution, ownership, possession and use of marijuana is still illegal per Federal law. That means anyone, for instance in Colorado, who conducts their business regarding marijuana usage as if it is a legal activity can be arrested and prosecuted by the DEA at any time regardless of what Colorado law enforcement thinks.
If one has to reveal their identity to a Bitcoin ATM located in a business related to marijuana, which is an illegal substance per Federal law, they provide probable cause in the event of a Federal search warrant of the registration and usage records related to the ATM. After all, what is the most probable reason that someone would use an ATM located inside of a marijuana dispensary?
As long as marijuana continues to be a controlled, illegal substance per Federal law, anyone acquiring marijuana is prudent to do it in a matter that is the least traceable to them. It appears that still means that one should use cash acquired far away from the marijuana dispensary.
