Respiratory rates of specific age groups have been extensively studied. Adults of Seymour's age breathe anywhere from 10-30 times per minute. Hence one can't naively rely on the average, since the variance is large. See:

Here is the latest estimate of Seymour's annual compensation:



There are 525,600 minutes in a year. That means Seymour earns $1.42 per minute for breathing.

Accounting for Seymour's geriatric torpor, $0.13 per breath comes pretty close to accounting for his $745, 183.
