I think he knows the truth, but stating it in blunt terms here may cause him to not be able to unload his lot, or so he thinks. Because the chances of unloading any shares onto any new naive buyer here are pretty much zero at this point anyways. There could still be a gain for him though by stating the truth: Dignity, peace of mind , total acceptance , a path forward , etc....
