One can promote one's product without lobbying to outlaw and bad-mouth other products. Sure marketing and lobbying is a fair practice, but I think they probably crossed the line in their lobbying efforts, trying to keep useful drugs (like buprenorphine and methadone) out of patients' hands - all to make a buck. The state should not be in the business of creating monopolies based on lobbying efforts. So, I agree with you that the lawmakers, judges, wardens, and the rest dropped the ball, but if someone is bribing you (and perhaps you don't know any better, thinking this person advising you is impartial), what would you do? Shouldn't the "bribing" of those who control the purse strings of addiction treatment to squelch the competition be illegal?

Let the doctors and patients decide what is best, and don't make laws creating a monopoly where only one type of treatment can be used.
