A law firm where the lawyers get to decide what cases they will take would never grow to the size of his firm.



Yes - associates are told what to work on. And probably most/many jr partners. But not full partners - almost nobody is dictating specific cases to a general partner.

Can the other partners vote you out if you quit generating the appropriate amount of income? Of course. But they can't run you like an employee. You're a co-owner of the firm - not an employee.
