Thae Yong-ho, a former official at the North Korean embassy in London, testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on his experience inside the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's central government from which he defected in 2016. ... Thae discussed his decision to defect to South Korea along with his family, which had been living in the U.K. and were called back to Pyongyang by the North Korean government, as well as many of the abuses of freedoms and human rights he witnessed as a member of the regime. He also answered questions from committee members on ways the U.S. could best reach the North Korean people and encourage their resistance to the Kim family regime.
