If there is big news that he intends to discuss on the conference call then I would look for it to be PR'd the day before.

Stating any significant news to just those who are able to do the call and leaving others out of the loop would not be the best idea. My hope is if he has such news he puts it in an after hours press release so anyone who is unable to be on the call has the chance to put in orders that will get filled at the open.

It has been my experience that conference calls are for events that have taken place or for information on future plans, they are not for telephone press releases.
