It's such a corporate thing to have name tags. I think it's in part to help people identify others and mingle when they walk around and can just walk up to a stranger and say, "Oh, you're with KP Engineering, how interesting..." to break the ice. At least that is one of the reasons. I have attended events where they gave out name tags. Does help with wondering who everyone is (even if it's childish).
