In a stunning move, the Patriots on Monday night traded backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2018 second-round draft pick, according to multiple sources.
Garoppolo is in his fourth season with New England, but hasn’t played this year as Tom Brady has taken all of the snaps.
The Patriots drafted Garoppolo 62nd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Eastern Illinois. He has made two career starts, both coming last season as Brady served a four-game suspension.
