NO one has repaid penny one -- per GAAP rules

All payments have been deemed as dividends on an equity investment

Do I like that ?

No - I hate it

But to say anything has been paid back in any legal or financial sense is 100% wrong

If I buy preferred stock in a company - their paying me dividends does not pay me back one penny
