You need to watch volume on Front month and back month and cash. To see the direction/timing of the roll into new contract. The best way to play contango if it is tangible is to buy DGAZ 4/5 days out before expiry. e.g. Dgaz at <24.5 and under last week was the buy. That s 5.00 dollar gain.
Roll is occurring before our eyes. Bulk of it happen yesterday and today.
