I would have to say that this event is more like what I understand is "vapor lock."
Vapor lock occurs within the confines of a fluid transporting device (tube, pipe ect.) from a high to low pressure (or vice versa), or across a pressure differential.
If the pressure of the fluid equalizes on both ends thus eliminating the pressure differential, the medium vaporizes due to the increase in the pressure, temperature or velocity of the medium caught or trapped between the two pressure points causing the liquid/medium to change its state from a liquid to a vapor which is far more compressable and thus resists flow. This condition causes flow to cease until the varibles such as temperature, pressure, delta P and other parameters are equalized for that particular medium.
