So you might look at the new lid and wonder how it is superior to the old lid which was itself an engineering marvel. The old lid had a slider that covered the drinking hole but did not completely seal it. The new lid snaps into place at the drinking hole for a complete seal. The old lid had a place for a straw which was not completely sealed either. It had a fin on it that would push down as the slider passed over it which provided the air flow needed. The new lid still has a place for a straw but it is sealed until punctured for use and the fin is no longer required because the air flow is provided by a hole under the slider that is sealed only when the slider is in the closed position. And all this for the cost of what customers now pay for the current lids on the market. This is a multi-billion dollar market that is just now witnessing the arrival of a better mousetrap and it's about to get owned.
