I think that Canoe has a greater interest in avoiding government pressure on crypto-currency in China than shutting down an American shell for a tax write-off. The latter would ultimately cost them more money in the long run by abandoning perfectly viable exit strategy, leaving them vulnerable to Chinese government manipulation and over-regulation of their very own company.
